Finding humour, joy and life lessons in the day to day.
Hi, I’m BJ!
Welcome to Her Nest is Empty, a place to relax and unwind.
Join me, an empty nester, on my ten-acre country home, tackling projects, crafting, cooking, gardening, and overthinking life!
My husband and I live on ten acres in the middle of Saskatchewan, Canada…the middle of nowhere! We were married in 1985, when I was 19 and he was almost 22. That is a lot of years for us to get to this point! We have two adult children, a daughter-in-law and two amazing grandsons. We’ve lived here on our sweet sanctuary for more than 20 years! We love our humble home and hope to stay here until we are old and feeble, but we trust the Lord to guide our steps. In the past we have enjoyed having chickens, turkeys, cats and dogs, but currently our only animals are the wildlife…of which there is plenty!
About Me
I moved around a lot as a child but for the memorable portion of my childhood, I lived in a village in the middle of farm country Saskatchewan. To look back and see how God had His hand on my circumstances throughout my childhood is something that continually brings me joy and humility.
To earn a bit of money I work half time as my church’s Administrative Assistant. I have had that job since 2010 and it suits me well. Previous part time jobs I’ve had are: my own house cleaning business; a Canada Post mail delivery person, an Educational Assistant, my own little daycare, and if you look way back to my teen years I was the village babysitter. I am grateful to be able to say that I have mainly been a stay-at-home mom, usually with a small side hustle.
I love being a homemaker, wife, mother and grandma! My time raising my kids was precious…it was my career. Now I have come to understand that I was in training for my most favourite role….as Grandma! Oh, those little boys are my sunshine and we are so blessed that they live close by.
In my down time I enjoy family, Canasta with friends, Scrabble (online with my best friends), audiobooks, podcasts, sewing, paper crafting, gardening, fishing, quadding, Youtube, cooking, baking, road trips, and camp fires!
I’ve dreamed of having a blog for a few years. I have been told numerous times that I have a gift for writing and this seems like a great way to have fun with that. Thank you for taking the time to read this! I hope you will stick around so we can be friends!
